BTS Malta

Sustainability

BTS is committed to responsible manufacturing. We continuously work to reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and maintain full compliance with RoHS, REACH, and international environmental standards — because sustainable production is good engineering.

Our Commitment

We believe that what happens tomorrow is shaped by what we do today. Sustainability at BTS is not a policy statement – it is built into our procurement, our production processes, and our investment decisions.

Energy

Photovoltaic Installation

BTS has invested in an 80kW photovoltaic system installed on our Mosta Technopark facility, taking advantage of Malta’s year-round sunny climate. The system is estimated to supply approximately one third of our total electricity consumption, displacing grid power with clean solar generation.

BTS’ solar energy project reduces carbon emissions by an estimated 60,000 kg of CO₂ per year — a meaningful step towards carbon-neutral manufacturing.

The PV installation was co-financed under the EU’s Operational Programme I — Cohesion Policy 2007–2013 (ERDF), at a co-financing rate of 42.5% EU funds, 7.5% national funds, 50% private

Waste Management

GreenPak Membership

In Malta, any entity importing, manufacturing or trading in the local market is legally required to recover and recycle the packaging it generates. BTS fulfils this obligation as a member of the GreenPak compliance scheme – Malta’s leading packaging waste recovery organisation.

Production Practices

Lead-Free Soldering

The majority of our production is lead-free. All automated soldering is performed in a nitrogen environment, which both improves solder joint quality and reduces the release of oxidation by-products.

RoHS & REACH Compliance

We use RoHS and REACH compliant materials throughout our production process, minimising the use of hazardous substances in the electronics we manufacture.

Quality as Sustainability

Our commitment to zero-defect manufacturing is itself an environmental commitment. Reducing rework, minimising scrap, and building electronics that last all reduce the real environmental cost of what we produce. Our AOI, SPC and IPC 610 processes exist not just to meet customer requirements — they reduce waste at source.
